TPT Chats Episode 2: PowerPoint, Google Suite, or Canva?

Feb 03, 2025

If you've every struggled to pick the right tool for creating your TPT resources, we've been there too! In Episode 2 of TPT Chats, we broke down the pros and cons of the three big ones: PowerPoint, Google Suite, and Canva. Here's the quick and simple to help you decide.

PowerPoint: The OG

PowerPoint is the classic favorite for resource creation, and honestly, it's hard to beat. It's reliable, powerful, and gives your resources a professional touch.

Why We Love It:

  • Perfect for crisp, high-quality PDFs.
  • You can use custom fonts and clipart to make your resources stand out.
  • Math tools (like graphs & equations) are a lifesaver for math & science teachers.

Best for: Printables, worksheets and any resource where quality is key.

Google Suite Tools: Simple & Free

Google Suite Tools (Slides & Sheets) is great for digital resources. It's free, easy to use, and integrates with Google Classroom, which makes it super convenient.

Why It's Great:

  • No cost and no downloads - just hop in and start creating!
  • Ideal for digital activities like pixel art or moveable pieces.
  • Real-time collaboration is a bonus if you're working with others.

Watch Out For: The quality isn't as sharp as PowerPoint, especially for printables. And you're limited to Google's fonts.

Best For: Digital resources or if you're just getting started.

Canva: Your Go-To for Visuals

Canva is like a design playground. It's quick, easy, and full of templates, making it awesome for creating eye-catching visuals.

Why We Like It:

  • The templates and graphics make designing simple.
  • You can upload your own fonts for a personal touch.
  • Great for promo materials.

Heads-Up: Be careful with Canva's terms of use when selling resources, It's better for marketing materials than creating full products to sell.

Best For: Promotional designs - social media, blog graphics, pins, and thumbnails.

So, Which One's Right for You?

Here's the thing: all three tools have their place. If you're making printables, stick with PowerPoint. For digital resources, Google Suite tools has you covered. And Canva? It's a game-changer for marketing and visuals.
